For an ultra-light shelter, the footprint, tent fly, and tent poles can be used together leaving the tent body behind. The poles fit into the footprint grommets, the fly goes over the poles and the footprint and fly are staked out. In this configuration the tent is not free standing and you need to stake the fly out.
